What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervising Attorney position at New York State Unified Court System?
The Kings County Surrogate’s Court is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervising Court Attorney to oversee the operations of the Bernard Graham Law Department. This position plays a vital role in managing the day-to-day legal operations, supervising staff, and ensuring the efficient and effective handling of complex legal matters in the Surrogate’s Court.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create assignments and delegate legal research tasks to staff, while evaluating and reviewing completed work for quality and accuracy.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for the Law Department, ensuring consistent application across all cases.
- Draft and issue written interpretations of statutes, rules, and other legal materials as necessary.
- Research, analyze, and prepare confidential memoranda regarding complex legal issues and questions.
- Draft confidential legal opinions in relation to probate, estate, and guardianship matters handled by the Surrogate’s Court.
- Confer with attorneys and counsel on unusual or complex legal proceedings to provide guidance and direction.
- Review legal documents filed in connection with proceedings, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and court procedures.
Qualifications:
Admission to the New York State Bar and Three (3) years of service in the Associate Court Attorney title;
or
Eight (8) years of relevant legal experience gained after admission to the New York State Bar.
Salary:
$137,325 $4,920 Location Pay
