Position Summary:
The Office of Senate District 6 seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented Legislative Finance & Budget Analyst to support the district’s legislative, budget, and community funding priorities during the 2025 legislative session. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong familiarity with New York State’s budget process, legislative appropriations, and member-driven grant programs.
The Analyst will work closely with senior staff to track appropriations, analyze fiscal impacts of legislation, support capital and discretionary grant requests, and assist with developing district funding strategies. This is a fast-paced, policy-driven role that requires excellent analytical skills, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Member Grants & Funding Support
- Manage intake, review, and vetting of capital and discretionary funding requests from community organizations.
- Maintain grant trackers and ensure required documentation is complete and submitted accurately.
- Assist applicants in navigating eligibility requirements, application materials, and state agency processes.
- Coordinate internally to align grant recommendations with district priorities.
- Track status updates through approval, contract execution, and project implementation phases.
Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as a point of contact for organizations seeking state funding, providing clear explanations of timelines and requirements.
- Attend budget meetings, hearings, and community events as necessary.
- Prepare written updates for internal use to ensure the office remains aligned on fiscal issues.
Budget & Fiscal Analysis
- Track Executive, Senate, and Assembly budget proposals and identify items relevant to Senate District 6.
- Prepare memos, briefings, and summaries explaining fiscal impacts, appropriations, and programmatic changes.
- Monitor the progress of one-house bills, budget negotiations, and enacted budget outcomes.
