What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Affairs Representative position at New York State Senate?
The Community Affairs Representative works in collaboration with members of the District Office team to represent State Senator Gustavo Rivera throughout the district. The Community Affairs Representative's responsibilities include interacting with constituents, providing constituent services through casework, addressing neighborhood concerns, building community relationships, and identifying solutions to improve the conditions of the district. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Handling constituent inquiries/intake.
- Managing constituent cases covering an array of issue areas such as social services, housing, unemployment, education and issues arising from local community concerns.
- Building relationships with city/state/federal government offices and community-based organizations.
- Attending community board, precinct council, district cabinet, and local meetings on behalf of the Senator. Occasionally attending meetings outside of the district.
- Planning and organizing community events, meetings and forums.
- Staffing the Senator as needed.
- Identifying community concerns to be addressed legislatively.
- Performing additional Community Affairs duties as needed.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree
- Strong writing and oral communication skills
- Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of issues facing the Bronx
- Fluency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and scheduled weekends as needed.
