The Office of the New York State Attorney General’s (OAG) Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) is seeking talented
individuals to serve in an entry-level position as a Legal Support Analyst (LSA) in its New York City office. LSAs are
part of project-specific teams comprised of attorneys, auditors, and detectives who, from inception through
disposition, work together to uncover complex fraudulent conduct for which MFCU holds wrongdoers accountable
through both criminal prosecution and civil enforcement litigation.
Improper and fraudulent use of Medicaid funds can impact access to critical healthcare services for low-income New
Yorkers and costs taxpayers millions of dollars annually. Utilizing the New York State Penal Law, the False Claims Act,
Social Services Law §145-b, the Executive Law, and other New York laws, the Unit brings civil actions and criminal
proceedings to successfully prosecute individuals and companies who are responsible for improper or fraudulent
Medicaid billing schemes. Many of the Unit’s investigations are conducted in coordination with other state, federal or
local government and prosecutorial agencies, and have resulted in revenue generation through the large-scale
recovery of taxpayer money.
Additionally, MFCU investigates reports of abuse and neglect at nursing homes and other health care facilities in New
York. The importance of this work is highlighted in the OAG’s report investigating allegations of COVID-19-related
neglect of nursing home residents across New York State.
The LSA supports the Unit by working in partnership with its attorneys, detectives, data analysts, and nurses to conduct
complex, long-term healthcare fraud investigations. Several matters that highlight MFCU’s important work include the
sentencing of a Bronx clinic owner for stealing more than $4 million; extradition from Pakistan and indictment of
Medicaid fraud ringleader; and filing lawsuits against two Long Island nursing homes for repeated financial fraud and
resident neglect.
• Assisting attorneys with case organization and management;
- Reviewing and organizing documents and other evidence;
- Utilizing eDiscovery software;
- Filing court documents electronically, as well as in person at courts in the five boroughs;
- Identifying and locating potential sources of relevant information;
- Analyzing large amounts of data and presenting it in a cogent manner;
- Being adept and creative in the use of search engines and social media for investigations;
- Developing proficiency using law enforcement databases;
- Organizing case files and providing legal and office support;
- Building professional relationships with law enforcement partners; and
- Gaining experience in criminal law and investigations in New York State.
• A Bachelor’s degree;
- Proficiency with fundamental computer applications, such as Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as the ability to
learn new computer applications. Prior familiarity with and experience using eDiscovery and legal research
applications is a plus;
- The ability to analyze and synthesize large amounts of information;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong organizational, time management and multitasking skills;
- The ability to function as an integral part of an investigative team and work in a group setting; and
- Finally, applicants who are available to work in this position for at least two (2) years are preferred.
The annual salary for this position is $57,420 $3,026 in location pay. We offer a comprehensive New York State
