Duties Description
A Certified Peer Specialist 2 mentors and trains non-certified Peer Specialists; performs the full range of supervisory duties for lower-level Peer Specialists; plans, develops, implements, and evaluates peer programs and services; and serves as the discipline head for Peer Services.
As a Certified Peer Specialist 2 you will serve as a role model and provide advocacy and support services to individuals.
Candidates must have current certification as an NYCPS by the NYPSCB and two years of post-certification experience as an NYCPS.

- Assist individuals in identifying, developing, and practicing personalized coping and crisis management skills to deal with their psychiatric symptoms.
- Interact with individuals as a peer and shares common experiences; and assists individuals in identifying areas in which they need support.
- Organize and facilitate self-help groups and activities; teach self-help techniques and group process skills; and facilitate the establishment of peer, natural, and social support networks.
- Help individuals carry out tasks defined in their treatment plans, and actively participate in their treatment planning process.
- Instruct and assist individuals in identifying or clarifying rehabilitation and recovery goals, and in developing daily living, educational, social, vocational, and other skills for empowerment and successful community living.
- Assist individuals in understanding and obtaining access to available community resources and benefits; provides information; and links individuals to essential supports, such as legal, housing, education, medical, and financial services.
- Advocate for the needs of individuals; and provide education and training on their perspectives to other mental health and human service providers.
