The Underwriting Department evaluates risks to determine appropriate premium for new and existing customers when issuing or renewing workers' compensation insurance policies, ensuring disciplined pricing, operational efficiency, and ease of doing business with NYSIF to provide coverage at the lowest possible cost.
The Underwriting Intern will provide support services to the Underwriting Department. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Performing maintenance transactions such as updating policy records.
- Monitoring shared email and routing communications.
- Creating certificates of insurance.
- Participate in Special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Be a permanent New York State (NYS) resident and/or actively enrolled in a NYS college, university, or graduate program.
- Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program) or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate program.
- Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or the letter grade equivalent.
- Able to work full-time Summer (37.50 hours weekly) and (or?) part-time (10-15 hours per week with the opportunity to work more hours depending on availability) fall and spring.
- Desire to work in public service.
- Preferred Major(s): Business, Finance or Accounting
