Case Management Unit Investigative Aide

The Offices of the Inspector General (“OIG”) are comprised of three offices, derived from the three appointments held by Inspector General Lucy Lang:

· The Office of the New York State Inspector General (“NYSIG”), as established by Executive Law Article 4-A, is entrusted with the responsibility of receiving and investigating complaints of fraud, corruption, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, and abuse in executive branch agencies of New York State government. Since June 2021, this includes complaints related to the New York State Gaming Commission.

· The Office of the New York State Welfare Inspector General (“OWIG”), as established by section 74 of the Executive Law, is responsible for maintaining the integrity of New York State’s public assistance programs; and

· The Office of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Fraud Inspector General (“WCFIG”), as established by section 136 of the Workers’ Compensation Law, is responsible for investigating violations of the laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the workers’ compensation system.

OIG has office locations in Albany, Buffalo, Hauppauge, New York City, Suffern, and Syracuse.

Job Description & Key Responsibilities

OIG conducts in-depth investigations and analysis of alleged fraud, abuse, corruption, conflicts of interest, and other criminal activity in New York State agencies and entities under its jurisdiction. Staff of the Case Management Unit (CMU) serve as a frontline point of contact with the public by intaking and processing allegations of misconduct by those working for and doing business with the state. Key responsibilities of CMU staff members, but are not limited to:

· Answering hotline calls and reviewing written complaints to determine jurisdiction.

· Inputting and tracking complaints using OIG’s case management database.

· Maintaining filing systems to ensure that correspondence is processed in a timely manner and forwarded to relevant investigative staff.

· Drafting referral letters to other agencies.

· Compiling and reviewing complaint data for internal and external use.

· Assisting executive management staff with miscellaneous tasks as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Strong and professional interpersonal abilities for effective engagement with the public, as well as other local, state, and federal agencies.

· Sound judgment and an ability to handle sensitive material with strict adherence to confidentiality.

· Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, handle multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel and an ability to quickly learn new computer programs, including proprietary applications such as OIG’s case management system.

· A work-related familiarity with New York State or City government is valued but not required.

· A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, but is not mandatory.

· New York State residency is required.

This is a Management Confidential position appointed by the Inspector General with a salary of $56,659 (Grade 14 equivalent). A two-year commitment is required.
