What are the responsibilities and job description for the Press Assistant position at New York State Executive Chamber?
The New York State Executive Chamber seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as a Press Assistant. This individual will work with a closely-knit team in order to execute effective communication strategies that promote the Governor’s policy and legislative priorities.
Duties:
- Assists in the preparation of press materials, including (but not limited to) drafting press releases, statements, event transcripts, etc;
- Assists with outreach to news media, including pitching press events and other reporter engagement tasks;
- Assists with event staffing;
- Performs research as needed, for the preparation of press releases, articles, and any other information to be disseminated to the public;
- Responsible for real-time media monitoring of traditional news and social media channels to track and flag breaking news;
- Compiles daily news clips and assists with news briefings;
- Proofread and edit transcripts and other written materials;
- Engage relevant technology to assist in job duties;
- Monitor the incoming press emails and manage event RSVPs;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and demonstrated experience and interest in working in political press and communications.
Ideal candidates will be able to work as part of a team, have excellent oral and written communication skills, a sharp eye for detail, a comprehensive understanding of the AP Stylebook,
and be able to multitask and work in a highly fast-paced environment.
Preferred candidates will have a strong interest or prior knowledge of NYS government.
Evening and weekend shifts are regularly required in this role.
Salary : $62,000 - $70,000
