Under the direction of a higher-level Public Safety Program Specialist within the DCJS Office of Public Safety, Law Enforcement Strategic Assistance Unit (LESAU), the Public Safety Program Specialist 1 will be assigned to the Special Projects Unit of the Planning and Administration section. The Special Projects Unit is a collaborative, cross-functional team supporting multiple events, projects, and working groups, including the DCJS Annual Public Safety Symposium, special events, and ad hoc projects that support the Gun-Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) and Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate-Partner Violence (STRIVE) Initiatives. This position focuses on project management, event coordination, vendor and procurement support, and collaboration across internal units and external partners. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with Special Projects to support the Gun-Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) and Statewide Targeted Reductions in Intimate-Partner Violence (STRIVE) Initiatives.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and delivery of the annual DCJS Public Safety Symposium.
  • Provide programmatic support for the development, tracking, implementation, and assessment of relevant projects and programs.
  • Prepare and disseminate event, training, and technical assistance announcements and information concerning educational and professional development opportunities.
  • Utilize data management, survey, and project management tools in support of program operations and reporting.
  • Assemble and facilitate stakeholder advisory panels and participate in workgroups related to assigned areas.
  • Serve as a project liaison to outside agencies, inclusive of vendors, state, and non-state governmental entities
  • Prepare vendor quotes and cost proposals supported by state and federal funding.
  • Prepare standard Letters of Agreement.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects by tracking milestones, coordinating deliverables across stakeholders, and maintaining project documentation to ensure timely completion.
  • Develop and streamline existing processes for project updates to support consistent implementation across initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal staff and external vendors for event logistics, including venue contracts, catering, audio/visual, and materials procurement.
  • Track and manage procurement documentation, including purchase requests, vendor agreements, budget justifications, and contract materials, in collaboration with the Planning and Administration section.
  • Monitor social media channels and identify opportunities to increase the visibility and impact of the unit's activities across digital platforms.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and the Public Information Office to create and schedule posts that highlight key initiatives, events, and outcomes.
  • Assist in the review and improvement of completed projects, including post-event reviews, programmatic assessments, and the preparation of written reports, charts, and graphics on initiative outcomes for executive-level review, public presentation, and/or publication.
  • Promote all the Governor's criminal justice initiatives and DCJS services to local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies.
  • Up to 20% travel is required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Non-Competitive: Six (6) years of qualifying experience as a law enforcement officer, law enforcement trainer, or public safety program administrator in a local, state, or federal agency.

Candidates with prior experience supporting or leading multi-stakeholder projects and events through all phases of planning, execution, and evaluation, with demonstrated strengths in logistics, procurement, and program tracking, are preferred.

An associate degree or 60 credit hours may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of experience.

Time served for basic/recruit training does not count towards the qualifying law enforcement experience.

Additional Comments

Some positions may require travel to locations not serviced by public transportation.

Approximately 20% travel is required.
