Standard Duties: Under the direction of the Director of Public Information in the Communications Office, the incumbent’s duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the social media and media relations teams
  • Receive, review, and prioritize incoming work requests from various stakeholders.
  • Assign tasks to team members based on expertise, workload, and project deadlines.
  • Conduct initial reviews and edits of all content produced by the social media and media relations teams, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Monitor project timelines and ensure all content is delivered accurately and on schedule.
  • Manage and coordinate responses to all media inquiries.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for media coverage and develop strategic outreach plans.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of comprehensive social media and media relations strategies.
  • Ensure all content aligns with organizational goals and messaging.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to discuss performance, provide feedback, and support professional development goals.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.
  • Identify training needs and recommend professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Track and analyze the performance of social media and media relations efforts, providing regular reports on key metrics and insights.
  • Engage with agency stakeholders to provide exceptional customer service.

This role is for a strategic leader who can foster collaboration, ensure flawless execution, and elevate our public profile through innovative social media strategies and expert media engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

Eight years of experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications.

An associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or similar degree, substitutes for two, four, or five years, respectively.

Additional Comments

Position specific job duties may include occasional altered work schedule or job assignments which require availability and willingness to work occasional evenings and/or out-stationed assignments.

Candidates with no previous state service will begin at the starting rate of the salary range listed above.

Employment at the Department of Labor is contingent upon the maintenance of a valid work authorization and necessary documentation to work legally in the United States.

Please note: Due to operational requirements and funding considerations of various divisions/positions, there could be occasions in the future where unit assignments may change. Should this occur, it will not impact your title, salary or location.

Salary : $96,336 - $121,413
