Minimum Qualifications
Eligible for transfer, reachable for appointment from the appropriate eligible list or meet the following qualifications:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to complete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

Qualifications

- Possession of a completion of a two-year course/degree in court reporting or verbatim reporting from a nationally or regionally accredited school or institution or one recognized by the New York State Education Department (you will be required to furnish a copy at the time of application); or
- Two years of satisfactory experience in general verbatim reporting; or
- Possession of documentation confirming proficiency of at least 180 words per minute from nationally or regionally accredited school or institution or one recognized by the New York State Education Department. (You will be required to furnish a copy at the time of the application.)
- Supreme, federal, county, city, grand jury, and town justice
- General court reporting (examination before trial), depositions, meetings, and public hearings
- Real-time court reporting
- Computer aided transcribing (case catalyst)
- Reporting and transcribing of medical testimony
- Reporting and transcribing Workers’ Compensation Board depositions
