About the Department  
The Strategy, Planning and Analytics Department works collaboratively with each department across the organization to support strategy formulation, growth plan execution, and project implementation. The team provides the organization with in-depth analytical support in evaluating existing operations and new business opportunities. They help lead and advise cross-functional project teams in executing the many action items and special projects that have been designed to help NYRR continue to reach its strategic objectives.  
  
About the Position  
The Director of Business Intelligence will report to the Vice President of Strategy, Planning, and Analytics with the core responsibility of supporting the Vice President in advancing NYRR’s data strategy, analytics, insights, and governance. The role requires a balance of analytics expertise with solid  business strategy and strong communication skills; balanced with technical capabilities. The Director will act as a bridge between data-driven insights and decision-making processes at the organization, while ensuring NYRR maintains a modern data architecture with proper data governance. This position will be responsible for a suite of dashboards (primarily in Tableau, potential for other platforms) that enable a culture of data literacy and will manage ad-hoc analytics reporting requests from departments across the organization.  
  
Job Responsibilities:  
  
 Data Strategy, Management, and Governance  
  • Re-define and implement NYRR’s data strategy and associated data architecture development plan
  • Partner with IT to:
    • Define and implement the business and technology requirements for data collection and management across multiple platforms
    • Ensure data quality and data governance
Data Analytics & Insights  
  • Oversee business analytics, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and initiatives
  • Ownership and oversight of the creation of data visualization, dashboards, metrics, and other key data analytics tools to provide meaningful insights for the organization
  • Lead data analytics projects, including performance of quantitative analyses, analytical model development and testing
  • Provide accurate and timely responses to ad-hoc data analysis requests
  • Stay up to date on trends and best practices within data analytics, as well as new and emerging technologies in the space
Collaboration and Communication:  
  • Act as a liaison between departments, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making aligned with the organization’s strategic plan
  • Become a trusted partner with all departments and work to define their analytics requirements
  • Tell compelling stories through data, articulating technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Monitor, manage, and regularly synthesize data requests from across the organization to identify areas for improvement
Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Effectively manage employee performance through communication of expectations and standards
  • Prepare performance appraisals. Work with next level management when employee performance does not meet standards
  • Provide effective feedback and coaching to employees, including potential areas of improvement
  • Create goals for the team and individual employees
  • Encourage an environment of transparency, support, development, and growth
  • Delegate and distribute tasks and responsibilities appropriately
  • Ensure employees and staff adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Make decisions based on best interest of organization
  • Promote team culture that coincides with NYRR mission and core values
  
Job Requirements:  
  
Experience:  
  • 5 years relevant experience in data analytics or related field
  • Proven success planning and implementing data analytics strategies
  • Experience modeling and analyzing large data sets
  • Team leadership and managing team members’ portfolios and professional development
  
Education & Certifications:  
  • Undergraduate Degree in Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or related coursework in data analytics, data visualization, or performance measurement
  • Advanced degrees or coursework preferred 
  
Skills and Attributes:  
  • Resourceful, innovative, and strategic leader
  • High initiative, able to assert recommendations and effectively and expediently drive work forward
  • Strong planning, organization, analytical and problem-solving skills to maximize business impact and team efficiency
  • Fluency with programming languages and statistical software, including SQL, R, Salesforce, Tableau, Power BI
  • Strong ability to translate data into practical, actionable insights and recommendations
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work both independently or with a variety of internal and external constituencies; ability to translate technical concepts for those without technical or analytical backgrounds
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams), with advanced Excel skills and analytic functions
  
Other Requirements:  
  • All staff are required to work the NYC Half Marathon, Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS New York City Marathon
  
Salary: $95,000 - $100,000/year 
  
NYRR requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
