Position Summary:

The Medical Physics Intern (MPI) offers a unique opportunity for candidates to gain hands-on experience in medical physics with a focus on cutting-edge research and clinical applications in proton therapy. Interns will engage in both research and clinical shadowing under the direct supervision of a qualified medical physicist (QMP), contributing to impactful clinical and development projects aimed at enhancing patient care. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with a Principal Investigator (PI) to conceptualize novel ideas, design and conduct experiments, process and analyze complex data sets, and prepare scientific manuscripts for publication or clinical adoption.


Internship Training and Responsibilities may include:

  • Conduct and support research projects in proton therapy, including experimental design, data collection, and analysis
  • Develop code and script to facilitate quality assurance program and automatic workflow
  • Participate and support machine learning and artificial intelligence applications in radiation oncology
  • Develop and evaluate innovative solutions for enhancing treatment accuracy and efficacy
  • Support data collection, analysis and prepare the data for scientific presentations and publications
  • Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Other clinical and research supports as needed


Qualifications:

  • B.S, M.S or Ph.D. degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or related fields
  • Strong programming abilities (e.g., MATLAB, C#, Python, SQL) and proficiency in data analysis and presentation
  • Demonstrated skills in technical problem-solving, critical thinking, and data interpretation
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for effective collaboration and documentation
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and other relevant computational tools

The salary range and/or hourly rate displayed is a determination of base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
