Required Experience:
- Must have and maintain a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration and professional liability insurance in accordance with his/her employment agreement.
- Become and remain a provider in good standing in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
- CPR, ACLS, BLS Certified
- Maintain registration in good standing as an RPA, in accordance with NYS laws
- Apply, be awarded, and maintain in good standing, membership on the medical staff of each Facility with appropriate privileges at each Facility.
- Prior exposure to critical care, inpatient hospital medicine, or surgical services preferred
- Demonstrated interest in wound care, burn management, reconstructive or plastic surgery
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain open lines of communication with the supervising physician regarding a patient’s medical history (or other information) during consultations, before/after surgery, and office visits.
- See pre-op and post-op patients; conduct all preoperative histories and physicals and provide the patient with any prescriptions they will need during the perioperative period; answer any pre/post-operative questions from patients.
- Completes, notes summaries, evaluations, and other medical records using EMR.
- Obtain patient’s medical and personal history; obtain signed consent forms and perform physical evaluations on patients; ensure data entered is complete, accurate, up-to-date, and communicated to supervising physician and other medical staff in an organized fashion.
- ]Provide preoperative preparation for patients by completing surgery scheduling forms, obtaining signed consent forms, and handling certification insurance concerns.
- Assist supervising physician(s) in the operating room with various tasks such as performing first assistance in surgery.
- Participate in inpatient burn unit coverage in an academic medical center setting
- Support wound assessment, dressing changes, post-operative monitoring, and coordination of care for burn and reconstructive patients
- Collaborate closely with Plastic Surgery attendings, residents, nursing staff, and ancillary services
- Engage in ongoing learning and skill development within a teaching-hospital environment
Education Requirement:
- Master’s Degree from an Accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Active New York State Physician Assistant License
- Current Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS)
- American Heart Association – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- American Heart Association – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- New York State Mandated Child Abuse Identification and Reporting Training
- New York State Infection Control Training
Work Location: Nassau University Medical Center
Compensation: $115,000 - $125,000
