The New York Construction Materials Association (NYMaterials) is the leading trade association representing New York's aggregate, asphalt, and concrete producers. Our members build and maintain the infrastructure that keeps New York moving. As a respected voice in Albany and across the industry, NYMaterials advocates sound public policy, develops technical resources, delivers premier educational programs, and promotes innovation, sustainability, and workforce development throughout the construction materials industry.


The Technical Director serves as one of the Association's primary technical resources for members and industry stakeholders. This individual works closely with the President, Vice President, Board of Directors, committees, members, consultants, and government agencies to advance the Association's technical, educational, regulatory, and member service initiatives.


Description

Job Title: Technical Director

Status: Full-time, salaried position

Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 commensurate with experience

Schedule: Monday - Friday, regular hours in general, some flex time allowed

Travel: 20% on average with seasonal variation

Location: Latham, NY

Responsibilities

The desired candidate will work with Association staff, members, and consultants to progress the work of the Association. Primary responsibilities are to support the aggregate, asphalt, and concrete members’ technical needs.

  • Provide and/or coordinate technical training including organizing annual 1-day training programs for each material - aggregate, asphalt and concrete. Training includes internal training programs for members and external training that supports members.
  • Provide public speaking to promote the association and for technical topics.
  • Represent the Association in various statewide and national venues including but not limited to AGC, AIA, TRB, NRMCA, NCC, NAPA, and NSSGA.
  • Support the Associations committees including Aggregates, Asphalt, Concrete, Environmental, Sustainability, Safety, Emerging Leaders, Association members, and Affiliate members.
  • Support construction safety requirements and adherence to good safety practices
  • Provide technical writing for various documents, standards, and specifications
  • Support sustainability practices specific to aggregate, asphalt and concrete
  • Work with members to address the various environmental regulations for mining, materials, and construction operations.
  • Meet quarterly with the Associations Executive Board and provide various updates of activities, budgeting, and accomplishments.
  • Public speaking – technical training ability
  • Assist with member invoicing
  • Assist with development of the Annual member directory


Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred, or commensurate experience.
  • 10 years of experience working with aggregate, asphalt, and/or concrete materials in the fields of construction or construction technology, engineering or engineering technology, geology, environmental technology, or materials.
  • Experience with materials testing in accordance with nationally recognized test methods such as ASTM, AASHTO, and NYSDOT specifications for aggregates, asphalt and concrete materials, and asphalt and concrete mixtures.
  • Knowledge of asphalt and/or concrete mixture design / development.
  • Knowledge of aggregate mining and processing operations
  • Knowledge of different aggregate types and their appropriate uses, and knowledge of friction requirements for aggregates used in pavement applications.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with quality control practices.
  • Strong ability to manage small groups / committees
  • Ability to assist with production of biannual trade magazine publication
  • Ability to assist with development of technical training programs and conferences
  • Ability to assist with development of agendas for 2 association meetings per year with facilitation of both meetings
  • Good comprehension of specifications and specification writing skills
