This role demands a high level of technical insight, strategic thinking, and collaborative problem-solving to ensure the optimal design, performance, and reliability of Work Cars across the transit system.  The incumbent will be required to perform duties including but not limited to: Reviewing and approving submittals including, but not limited to: engineering analyses, technical and contractual specifications, drawings, manuals, test plans and reports, schematics, design modifications, prototypes for electrical and mechanical systems and components.Providing technical support to all work equipment capital projects including but not limited to: writing and reviewing technical specifications, contract provisions, reviewing bidding proposals, reviewing preliminary and critical design reviews, and First Article Inspections (FAI).Determining root causes of failures and developing corrective actions.Traveling, both domestically and internationally, to contractor facilities. Report to field locations on a 24-hour, 7 day/week basis in the performance of assigned tasks. Education and Experience   1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, plus: (a) Two years of full-time satisfactory experience performing one of the following:     (i) Reviewing moderately complex design or maintenance manuals or documents of railcars, automobiles, trucks, buses, marine vessels, aircraft or other industrial equipment; or (ii) Preparing plans and technical specifications for railcars or other vehicles and equipment described in a(i); or (iii) Inspecting, performing, or supervising quality control reviews of the work described in a(i) and a(ii); and    (b) Three years of full-time satisfactory experience performing one or a combination of the following:   (i) Inspecting, maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting of railcar or other vehicles and equipment described in a(i); or (ii) Supervising or performing the installation of railcar or other vehicles or equipment described in a(i); or   2. A four-year vocational/technical high school diploma with a major sequence of courses in electrical, mechanical, or electronic technology, or a closely related field, plus two years of full-time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above and two years of the full-time satisfactory experience described in "1 (b)" above; or   3. An associate degree from an accredited college with a major sequence of courses in electrical, mechanical, civil, transportation, aerospace or computer engineering, electrical/electronic technology, computers science, cyber security or related degree, plus two years of the full-time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above, and one year of the full-time satisfactory experience described in "1 (b)" above; or   4. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major sequence of courses as described in "3" above, plus two years of the full-time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a) or 1 (b)” above; or   5. A master's degree from an accredited college in one of the major fields described in "3" above, plus one year of the full-time satisfactory experience described in ""1 (a) or 1 (b)” above. Desired Skills:Knowledge of rail work equipment (Work Cars), hi-rail vehicles and various specialized rolling stock, including systems, sub-systems, and components.Knowledge of diesel engines or hybrid systems.Knowledge of relays, power electronics, or PLC programming.Experience in field inspection and testing of rail vehicles.Knowledge of engineering principles applied to railway equipment design.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Access.Experience with CAD software (e.g., Auto CAD, MicroStation, Solid Edge, SolidWorks).Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Selection Method:   Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.       All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.      Other Information:   Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).      Equal Employment Opportunity:   MTA and its subsidiary and affiliated agencies are Equal Opportunity Employers, including with respect to veteran status and individuals with disabilities.        The MTA encourages qualified applicants from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and abilities, including military service members, to apply.
