Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

Employee Relations oversees the New York City Police Department's efforts to improve the health, well-being and morale of all members of service, support the families of fallen officers and members who are seriously injured and/or ill; and liaison to the Department's 40 fraternal, religious, and ethnic organizations. The Employee Relations Bureau consists of the Ceremonial Unit, the Chaplains Unit, the Family Assistance Section (FAS), and the Health and Wellness Section (HWS). Additionally, Employee Relations facilitates collaboration and communication between numerous

bureaus and offices at the direction of the Police Commissioner.

The Administrative Staff Analyst will be an essential member of the Employee Relations Bureau responsible for: Preparing graphs/charts for meetings/events and presentations. Assisting with such matters as maintaining databases/ spreadsheets. typing records, reports, forms, schedules. tracking and follow-up communications, etc. Participating in various ceremonies, memorials, and events as part of the Employee Relations Team, Exercising initiative and independent action while being able to function successfully with various levels of supervision.

Additional duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to: General administrative duties such as: answering telephones, filing, making copies, data entry, preparing reports for both internal and external distribution; and administrative support work as needed for the Deputy Commissioner or Employee Relations. The anticipated Administrative Staff Analyst is required to be personable. organized, accurate, and detail-oriented, having strong interpersonal and administrative skills to support a busy office. Also, the Administrative Staff Analyst Is required to confidentially handle information that is sensitive in nature. The Administrative Staff Analyst is required to assist in the responsibility for supervision of the assigned Police Administrative Aide. The Administrative Staff Analyst must follow direction from the Deputy Commissioner of Employee Relations and other competent authority.

The candidate will also input and schedule all events on the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner's daily calendar, input the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner's time records into City time weekly, schedule meetings for the Deputy Commissioner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A master's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a closely related field, and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management; or in a related area. 18 months of this experience must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity. Supervision must have included supervising staff performing professional work in the areas described above; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in the areas described in "1" above, including the 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory experience, as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

Preferred skills include: 1. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Microsoft 365 Outlook, Excel, and Adobe applications. 2. Prior experience in preparing graphs/ charts and fiscal requests. 3. Highly motivated with excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills. 4. Possess strong reading and writing skills. 5. Ability to think creatively and embrace innovative ideas and approaches. 6. Must follow direction from the Deputy Commissioner, Employee Relations and other competent authority.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
