The Division of Roadway Repair and Maintenance is recruiting a Community Coordinator to work in the Arterial Maintenance Unit, whose primary responsibility will be to manage and execute a contract to maintain landscaped roadway medians throughout the City. Tasks to be performed include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manage all aspects of median landscape maintenance program including budget, contractor schedule and work assignment, inspection and evaluation of contractor reports and recommendations;
Supervise horticulture inspectors; Maintain program records and database. Prepare written reports in narrative and statistical form, based on research and analysis, in order to provide a synopsis of results and recommendations; Interpret policies, procedures, regulations, contract provisions, and legal principles to provide requested/required information for oversight agencies and stakeholders; Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills
Preference will be given to candidate who possess knowledge of: Horticultural knowledge of ornamental plantings, including perennials, shrubs, grasses and trees, with an emphasis on species identification and the evaluation of plant health conditions. Experience in landscape management. Exceptional attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with users, stakeholders, and management. Ability to meet strict deadlines and handle multiple tasks concurrently. Excellent analytical, organizational, data presentation and interpersonal skills.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
