Location: New York City Garment District
Salary: $100,000–$130,000 annually, based on experience
New York Apparel Design is seeking an experienced Senior Fashion Merchandiser to join our team in Manhattan’s Garment District. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of merchandising experience, with a strong background in the young contemporary and junior women’s apparel markets.
This position requires a commercially focused fashion professional who understands current trends, customer demand, pricing, margins, product development, and the competitive wholesale apparel market.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and execute merchandising strategies for young contemporary and junior apparel collections.
• Analyze fashion trends, customer demand, competitive products, pricing, and market opportunities.
• Partner closely with design, sales, production, sourcing, and executive teams.
• Build balanced and commercially successful seasonal assortments.
• Identify key items, emerging trends, and opportunities to increase sales and profitability.
• Review sales performance, inventory levels, sell-through, margins, and customer feedback.
• Recommend pricing, product mix, quantities, and category expansion opportunities.
• Manage the merchandising calendar from initial concept through development, production, and market launch.
• Participate in market appointments, customer meetings, line reviews, and seasonal presentations.
• Communicate with domestic and international vendors regarding product development, costing, and delivery requirements.
• Help guide and mentor junior members of the merchandising and product development teams.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 10 years of fashion merchandising experience.
• Extensive experience in young contemporary and junior women’s apparel.
• Strong knowledge of the New York wholesale apparel market.
• Proven ability to develop profitable, trend-right, and commercially successful product assortments.
• Strong understanding of costing, pricing, margins, inventory management, and sales analysis.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple seasonal deadlines.
• Established relationships with retailers, vendors, factories, or industry partners are highly valued.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and apparel merchandising or ERP systems.
Compensation and Benefits
• Salary range of $100,000–$130,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
