Overview for the Teacher Assistant:
New World Preparatory Charter School is expanding and is looking for additional Teacher Assistants for Kindergarten through 5th grade. The Teacher Assistant is responsible for supporting a classroom environment that supports the individual needs of all children in accordance with the school’s mission and values established by the school. This position could lead to a full-time teaching position with proper credentials.
Teacher Assistant Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in preparing lesson materials and organizing classroom supplies
- Presents subject matter to students as directed by the teacher or the lesson plan
- Tutors, assesses, and assists children individually or in small groups to help them achieve mastery
- Provides extra assistance to students with special needs
- Assists the teacher in maintaining an orderly classroom environment
- Maintains and communicates high academic and personal expectations for all students
- Substitutes when needed
- Follows the school's policies and procedures for student conduct and discipline
- Supervises students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, courtyard, between buildings, on field trips, and during drop-off and pick-up times
- Maintains a positive classroom environment that promotes active learning and positive behavior
- Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials
- Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor
- Attends required school-wide meetings: staff meetings, Scholar Led Conferences, Open Houses, etc.
- Builds collaborative relationships with colleagues
- Assists with morning arrival and dismissal
- Fulfills all other duties as assigned by the grade level leader and administration
Teacher Assistant Qualification and Skills Requirements
- Associate’s Degree or above preferred. Experience can substitute for education
- Prefer candidates working towards their degree and certification as a teacher
- Bilingualism is preferred (Spanish/English)
Pay: $34,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
