Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Precision Agriculture Intern to join our team for the upcoming summer 2026. This internship offers hands-on experience in cutting-edge agricultural technologies and practices. The intern will assist in the collection, analysis, and application of agronomic data to improve crop production, input efficiency, and overall farm management.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Data Collection & Scouting:
· Assist with crop scouting and agronomic data collection (e.g., plant health, pest/disease presence, stand counts).
· Regularly monitor and document trial performance data at plot and field levels.
· Use GPS-enabled equipment for geo-referenced data logging.
· Collect and process soil, tissue, and yield samples.
Precision Ag Technology Operation:
· Operate and calibrate precision ag equipment (e.g., planters, sprayers, yield monitors, UAVs/drones).
· Upload/download field data from monitors and transfer it to GIS platforms or cloud-based software.
Data Management & Analysis:
· Assist in analyzing field maps (e.g., NDVI, yield, soil variability)
· Support variable rate prescription creation for seeding, fertilization, and crop protection applications.
· Help maintain data integrity in software systems like Ag Leader, Climate FieldView, John Deere Operations Center, Case IH, SMS, etc.
Equipment Maintenance & Support:
· Help troubleshoot hardware/software issues related to field equipment.
· Assist with routine maintenance and sensor calibration.
· Collaborate with Agronomy Operations & Sales teams to learn hardware and operation principles of Variable Rate Application technology and UAV’s
Communication & Reporting:
· Document field observations and findings.
· Communicate regularly with the agronomy team and contribute to team meetings.
· Prepare end-of-season internship reports or presentations on findings and experiences.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
· Pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Precision Ag, Ag Systems Technology, or a related field.
· Strong interest in precision farming, agronomic practices, and data analysis.
· Basic knowledge of crop production systems and agricultural machinery.
· Familiarity with mapping and farm management software is a plus.
· Valid driver's license and ability to work in a field environment (walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, working in various weather conditions).
· Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience operating or assisting with drones/UAVs.
· Knowledge of GIS/GPS systems and applications.
· Exposure to agronomic sampling methods and tools.
· Experience with equipment brands such as John Deere, Case IH, Trimble, or Raven.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
