Role Description The Microenterprise Specialist is a full-time, hybrid role based in Augusta, ME, with flexibility for some work from home. This role provides direct support to aspiring and existing small business owners through one-on-one coaching, group workshops, and tuition-free classes on topics such as business planning, marketing, financial management, and accessing funding. The Microenterprise Specialist designs and delivers educational content, helps participants develop and refine business plans, and connects them with local resources, networks, and technical assistance. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, tracking participant progress and outcomes, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with colleagues and community partners to strengthen NVME’s microenterprise programs. The role also involves outreach activities to engage new participants, contribute to program improvement, and support grant and reporting requirements as needed.
Qualifications
  • Experience supporting small businesses or microenterprises, including business planning, operations, and advising.
  • Skills in financial literacy and basic business finance, such as budgeting, cash flow, and understanding loan or grant requirements.
  • Experience designing and delivering workshops, classes, or training for adult learners in person and online.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, maintain detailed records, and use common office and online collaboration tools efficiently.
  • Knowledge of Maine’s small business ecosystem and community resources is beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, social services, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessible programming for all participants.
