She strongly opposes the Nazi Party in secret, and does her best to remain positive and fight in spite of the chaos that surrounds her. Mezzo-Soprano.

[MARTA] Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), Late teens-20s. Born and raised in Rhineland to a Black, Senegalese father and a White, Jewish mother. A kind and genuine young woman who prefers to keep to herself, yet also longs to form connections and share her mind and talent with others. She is very close with her brother Oskar. Soprano

[ANNA] Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 20s-30s, Caucasian. The town gossip who loves drama. She has a larger than life personality and loves to be the center of attention. Mother to Noah. A devoted member of the Nazi party. Alto.

[ERIK] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), Late teens-20s, Caucasian. Jewish. To call this young man reserved would be an understatement. He almost never speaks nor expresses any sort of emotion to others, yet there is more to him than meets the eye. Tenor.

[DAVID] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), Anywhere from early 30s to early 50s (but must be around the same age as Rachel). Caucasian. The father to Emma, but truly acts like a father to all. A naturally warm and inviting Jewish man with a great sense of humor, even in the face of troubling times. Married to, and incredibly in love with, his wife Rachel. He is a big dreamer, very extroverted, and unapologetically himself. Bass/Baritone.

[RACHEL] Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), Anywhere from early 30s to early 50s (but must be around the same age as David). Caucasian. Jewish. An orderly realist who, although blunt at times, is very warm and nurturing when the moment calls for it. She is often the most mature person in any room. The loving mother to Emma and wife to David. Alto.

[MAX] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 20s-50s. Caucasian. A Christian man who defies Nazi law and follows his own moral code. He is very selfless and constantly prioritizes others' safety above his own. Non-Singing Role.

YOUTH CASTING

[PETER] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 9-13. Caucasian. A very observant child who doesn't really fit in at school. His best friend is his journal, and he uses it to write down his innermost thoughts and feelings. The son of Luisa and Christoph. Tenor.

[EMMA] Character is female (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 9-13. Caucasian. A young Jewish girl who is curious, clever, friendly, and sometimes speaks without a filter. The daughter of David and Rachel. Mezzo-Soprano.

[NOAH] Character is male (cis, transgender, or nonbinary), 9-13. Caucasian. He is the youngest of eight boys, and the son of Anna. He constantly bullies Peter in and out of school. A proud member of the Hitler Youth. Non-Singing Role.
