Job Overview
As a Direct Support Staff member, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and other unique needs. Your compassionate support will empower residents to achieve their personal goals and foster independence in a nurturing environment. You'll engage with clients in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community care, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care and assistance.
What you'll do
- Provide compassionate support to individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, and Alzheimer's care.
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
- Monitor patient health by checking vital signs and observing changes in behavior or condition.
- Implement care plans tailored to each resident's needs while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Facilitate engaging activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment through regular cleaning and organization tasks.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care and effective communication.
- Assist with heavy lifting and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
Basic qualifications
- Experience in home health, caregiving, or long-term care settings is preferred.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is essential for ensuring resident safety.
- Familiarity with patient monitoring techniques and vital sign assessment.
Preferred qualifications
- Previous experience working in group homes or nursing facilities.
- Knowledge of memory care practices and techniques for supporting individuals with dementia.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients, families, and team members.
