Position: Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist – Full-Time

Primary Location: Sarasota

Additional Travel: St. Petersburg, Tampa, and Orlando as needed

Our Sarasota float candidate must be willing to travel to our St. Petersburg and Tampa locations and must also be willing to travel to our Orlando location as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will work closely with physicians, clinical staff, patients, and the clinical operations team to provide an exceptional patient experience and support the delivery of minimally invasive, image-guided orthopedic procedures.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Obtain and document accurate patient histories, medications, allergies, and other pertinent clinical information.
• Obtain, record, and communicate patient vital signs and other clinical measurements.
• Perform phlebotomy and assist with blood specimen collection and handling according to established protocols.
• Perform IV placement when trained and authorized.
• Prepare patients and examination/procedure rooms for scheduled appointments and procedures.
• Assist physicians during ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided procedures within the scope of training and practice.
• Provide appropriate patient positioning, preparation, and support before, during, and after procedures.
• Monitor patients during the clinical visit and promptly communicate changes or concerns to the physician or appropriate clinical staff.
• Assist patients with mobility and safely escort patients to their vehicles, including use of a wheelchair when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EHR and other required records.
• Maintain patient flow and communicate effectively with physicians and other members of the clinical team.
• Answer telephone calls and emails and communicate with patients in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
• Greet patients and provide a welcoming, professional patient experience.
• Update patient medical records and assist with obtaining outside medical records and other required documentation.
• Coordinate laboratory services and specimen-related activities as directed.
• Assist with patient education and discharge instructions as directed by the physician or clinical team.
• Clean, disinfect, organize, and restock examination and procedure areas according to established protocols.
• Assist with maintaining clinical supply inventory and notify appropriate personnel when supplies need to be ordered or restocked.
• Follow all applicable infection prevention, safety, documentation, medication, and patient-care protocols.
• Maintain equipment and clinical areas in a clean, organized, and inspection-ready condition.
• Cross-train with laboratory personnel to support team operations and continuity of patient care.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, competency assessments, and quality-improvement activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable practice policies and procedures.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations and physician(s).

QualificationsRequired

• Current Medical Assistant experience or comparable clinical experience.
• Strong phlebotomy skills are required.
• Current CPR certification.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to obtain and accurately document manual vital signs and patient information.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, physicians, and coworkers.
• Ability to provide an exceptional level of customer service and patient care.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.

Preferred

• Orthopedic or sports medicine experience.
• Experience in regenerative medicine or interventional orthopedics.
• Fluoroscopy/X-ray experience.
• Experience assisting with image-guided procedures.
• IV placement experience.
• Experience working in a procedure-based outpatient clinical environment.
• Experience with patient education and clinical documentation.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who is energetic, compassionate, highly dependable, detail-oriented, and genuinely enjoys caring for patients.

You should be centrally located between the Sarasota, St. Pete and Tampa locations (Bradenton, Palmetto, Ellenton/Parrish). Reliable transportation a must.

You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor. You should take initiative, anticipate the needs of the physician and clinical team, and be willing to jump in wherever needed.
