Position Title: Program Mentor
Program: Youth Services – After School
Reports to: Director of Recreation & Enrichment FLSA: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
The Program Mentor helps/supports personal, social, creative and educational growth in young people to help them reach their full potential at program. The Youth Mentor will motivate, model and help create a community to support area youth in areas requiring assistance, such as mentoring, skill-building and personal growth.
Program Mentor Job Responsibilities:
- Helps plan and support the implementation of after school programs & clubs for youth 11-18 years old.
- Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for after school participants.
- Supervises youth and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Maintains a consistent schedule for after school participants.
- Helps facilitates lesson plans for daily activities.
- Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
- Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
- Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the after-school program.
- Records and tracks after school’s dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures that the meals/snacks are distributed to them.
- Help mediate any youth disputes with support from other Staff.
- Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the after-school program.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School graduate, GED, or degree in education or related field preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) and Bi-Cultural not required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, parents or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables
in standardized situations.
MENTAL/VISUAL DEMANDS: Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this position includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Eye-hand coordination required less than 15% of the time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, and/or kneel.
