Reports To: Security Supervisor / Director of Security

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 5:00pm-1:00am

POSITION SUMMARY

The Security Officer assigned to the Oberon Restaurant is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment for museum visitors, restaurant patrons, staff, vendors, and contractors. The officer will be present at the Freeman Alley entrance where they will monitor activity, oversee patron flow, and ensure compliance with all established security and operational procedures.

This position requires excellent customer service skills, strong situational awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively communicate with employees, visitors, contractors, and management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff and monitor Freeman Alley entrance during assigned hours.

Maintain a welcoming and courteous presence while enforcing security policies.

Resolve routine issues professionally and escalate concerns when necessary.

Provide professional assistance and directions to museum visitors and restaurant patrons.

Assist with crowd management and maintain orderly patron movement during restaurant operating hours.

Observe and report suspicious behavior, security concerns, safety hazards, and policy violations.

Monitor for visible signs of intoxication or disorderly conduct among patrons at the entrance and respond per restaurant/museum policy.

Coordinate with restaurant management on refusal of entry or removal of intoxicated or disruptive individuals.

Respond appropriately to incidents, disturbances, emergencies, and visitor concerns.

Remain present at Freeman Alley entrance and ensure doors are secured upon closing of restaurant.

Assist with evacuation of the entrance and immediate area during emergencies, consistent with Fire Guard (F-03) responsibilities.

Prepare incident, activity, and observation reports.

Document unusual occurrences, safety concerns, and operational deviations.

Immediately report significant incidents and procedural violations to Security Supervisors and the Director of Security.

De-escalation is the primary response to conflict; this role is not expected to physically restrain patrons except to protect life safety. Physical altercations should be handled by contacting the Security Supervisor and, if warranted, NYPD.

Comfortable using a two-way radio to communicate with the Security Supervisor and Security console.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand and/or patrol for the full duration of a shift.

Ability to work at a semi-outdoor entrance exposed to weather (heat, cold, rain, wind) for extended periods.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid New York State Security license.

Valid FDNY F03 license.

Previous security, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred.

Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent observation and decision-making abilities.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Basic computer proficiency and report-writing skills.
