Job Description

Under the supervision of the principal, the art teacher is responsible for creating an environment that supports a culture of learning and embraces student achievement. This includes creating classroom lesson plans, modeling exemplary behavior, and facilitating art instruction as it aligns with state and school standards. Additionally, he/she will create well-rounded and comprehensive instructional programs that challenge the minds of students and promote engagement. He/she will also partner with teachers across grade levels and will collaborate with academic coaches.

The art teacher will inspire students’ creative expression, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines. The art teacher will support students’ development of aesthetic appreciation and will guide students to discover and develop their talents in the field of art.

Classroom Instruction

• In partnership with the Academic Coaches, develop instruction and lesson plans
• Foster a culture of learning that embraces the strengths of all scholars
• Engage families and parents
• Develop lesson plans that outline daily objectives
• Develop classroom strategies that cater to individual student learning
• Collaborate with academic coaches and administrators to identify intervention strategies
• Facilitate classroom interventions
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals
• Utilize curriculum that reflects the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the scholars served
• Perform administrative classroom duties – grading, copying, printing, scheduling
• Utilize data and information to make decisions for individualizing students’ learning opportunities
• Research classroom trends that benefit classroom instruction
  
  

Behavioral Management

• Model positive behavior in the classroom that supports a safe and secure learning environment
• Implement PBIS in the classroom and throughout the school building
• Foster a positive learning environment where scholars are equally engaged and accountable to their actions and decisions
• Utilize classroom recognition strategies to promote positive behavior
• Follow the RHINO Way and ensures students abide by the same principles

• Inspire a school environment in which all staff, scholars, and families show up with a professional attitude and positive outlook on educational opportunities

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field.
• Must be licensed to teach in the state of Minnesota or can obtain license within six months of employment
• 1 years of experience working in an art classroom as a teacher, substitute teacher or student teacher
• Knowledge of MN state standards
• Ability to create and foster safe learning and working environment for families and scholars
• Experience working in a diverse community, particularly in a Hmong community. Preference given to someone who speaks, writes, and reads Hmong.
• Ability to inspire, foster, and empower scholars, staff members, and parents in an academic setting.
• Ability to work in a professional and fast paced environment.
• Ability to prioritize work urgencies and be organized.
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Suite – Words, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Adobe/PDF.
