What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Athletics position at New Mexico Junior College?
The Director of Athletics shall report to the President. Duties and responsibilities shall be, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manages and supervises athletic staff; oversees and coordinate all areas of the athletic office.
- Monitors athletes’ academic schedules and grades; reinforces student expectations; oversees student housing and drug testing.
- Certifies each individual student athlete per National Junior College Athletic Association and National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association guidelines.
- Coordinates fund raisers for the athletic programs and Booster Club.
- Organizes the use and up keep of all sports facilities and the Caster Center.
- Manages game workers, officials, and facilities for scheduled games and athletic events.
- Works with staff and athletes to ensure a successful path to graduation is followed and students maintain eligibility; provides or sets up sessions tutoring as needed.
- Participates in various meetings and committees as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
- Master’s degree in Education or related field required.
- Five (5) years of experience in teaching and athletic coaching; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- May require possession of a valid Texas or New Mexico driver’s license.
- Knowledge of College and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective leadership, supervision, and training.
- Knowledge of various sports and related rules and equipment.
- Knowledge of various collegiate athletic association guidelines, rules, and regulations.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in providing supervision, direction and leadership.
- Skill in managing athletic games and events.
- Skill in event coordination and facility management.
- Skill in identifying and coordinating fundraising opportunities and events.
- Ability to operate a personal computer, standard software, specialized software, and standard office equipment.
This is a twelve-month Exempt Position. Standard NMJC benefits apply.
