CESDP/BLI Assistant Director

This position is responsible for assisting the CESDP Director in supporting communities to improve the quality of education for all citizens by providing leadership and oversight of CESDP key initiatives including: technical assistance to State Education Agencies (SEAs), Local Education Agencies (LEAs), Tribal Education Agencies (TEAs) and schools, grant writing and research, collaboration with key P-12 stakeholders and educational organizations, and statewide advocacy for NM students, parents/families and educators.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversight of key CESDP initiatives.
• Administer assessment and evaluation of CESDP initiatives to ensure quality continuous improvement.
• Conduct research of training needs through surveys and interviews with stakeholders across New Mexico school districts and charter schools (e.g. superintendents, administrators, or teachers) and use results to inform program development.
• Collect and synthesize research to develop trainings and resources relevant to programs supported by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
• Manage and facilitate meetings with SEAs, LEAs, TEAs agency directors, CESDP staff, the NMHU College of Education, and other agencies in order to facilitate effective technical assistance and staff development activities.
• Collaborate with New Mexico school district administrators to provide technical assistance and support in the implementation of NMPED and district initiatives.
• Proactively seek funding opportunities to support CESDP key initiatives and actively engage in grant writing.
• Oversee CESDP training and technical assistance to ensure contract objectives with state, tribal, local education agencies and local schools are delivered in a timely, efficient and effective manner.
• Remain current in research and the understanding of the Every Student Succeeds Act program requirements and participate in staff cross-training and professional development activities.
• Provide research, support and evaluation of high quality bilingual, dual language, TESOL and family partnership programs across NM school districts.
• Provide guidance and program oversight to support NM high schools across the state with the implementation of the NM Seal of Biliteracy upon graduation from high school.
• Foster the development of student leadership and service learning opportunities.
• Collaborate and work with NM like-minded organizations and school districts to support culturally and linguistically responsive instruction.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Maintain regular attendance.


Qualifications:

Minimum Job Requirements:

 EDUCATION
Master’s Degree
• EXPERIENCE: At least six years elementary, secondary, or adult teaching experience.
Experience in community organizing, leadership development, and policymaking.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMEMTS:
• Valid New Mexico teacher certification/license in Elementary or Secondary education.
• Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
• Must be willing and able to travel (including overnight and commercial airline travel) as associated with this position.
• Must be willing to work weekends if needed.


Preferred Qualifications:

o Terminal degree in Educational Leadership and/or Multicultural Education (PhD or EdD)
o Experience writing and managing grants
o Experience working with linguistically, culturally diverse, and high poverty
populations
o Experience providing training and technical assistance to adults
o Experience working with culturally and economically diverse populations
o Experience working with educators, families, and community-based collaborators at
various levels
o Bilingual and biliterate in English/Spanish or English and a Native American language
o Experience in developing materials and providing presentations to diverse audiences


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong research and writing skills.
• Must be a team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Title I, Title III, Title VI, Special Education, and other ESSA programs.
