Job Overview
The New Mexico Department of Justice is seeking a well-rounded and experienced individual to join our team as the Division Director for the Medicaid Fraud and Elder Abuse Division. The Director will be responsible for overseeing and managing a multidisciplinary team of dedicated professionals. The primary focus of the Division is to pursue the investigation and criminal prosecution or civil litigation of fraud of the Medicaid program by healthcare providers, as well as the abuse, neglect and/or financial exploitation of residents in care facilities. The Director will work closely with the Attorney General, Chief Deputy Attorney General, and Deputy Attorney General for Criminal Affairs.

Duties

· Supervise the investigation and prosecution of offenders for violation of the state’s Medicaid fraud and elder/resident abuse, neglect and exploitation statutes.

· Pursue civil litigation to enforce state statutes governing the administration of the Medicaid program, as well as participate in whistleblower actions alleging violations of the state’s false claims acts.

· Manage a diverse group of professionals, including attorneys, law enforcement agents, forensic auditors and healthcare professionals.

· Oversee the operations of the Division, including developing appropriate procedures, reviewing investigative output and case progress, providing guidance to attorneys and other disciplines, and resolving legal questions arising in the course of an investigation or litigation.

· Administer federal grant requirements, including promoting the training of employees, completing relevant reporting requirements and advocating for budget expenditures.

· Develop and implement outreach initiatives to educate healthcare providers and consumers of common Medicaid fraud schemes and methods to recognize, report and prevent the abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of seniors and vulnerable populations.

· Collaborate with federal, state and local government agencies in the development of systems and process to address Medicaid fraud and abuse or neglect of those in care facilities.

· Assist in the development and advocacy of legislation and regulations that enhance the integrity of the Medicaid program and protect our state’s vulnerable communities.

Skills

· Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

· Admission to the New Mexico state bar and in good standing, or the ability to promptly acquire a limited law license.

· 6 years of experience in criminal prosecution or defense of white-collar crimes and offenses against vulnerable populations, and/or experience with civil litigation in healthcare field. Demonstrated skills and experience in related fields will be considered.

· Minimum of 3 years of management experience preferred.

· Federal grant management and administration experience preferred, but not required.

· Proven track record of developing and executing successful investigation and prosecution/litigation strategies.

· Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of attorneys and legal professionals.

· Outstanding legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

· Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with government agencies, as well as a group of diverse private and public-interest stakeholders.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $149,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
