This position is housed within the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention which is a section of the Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau in the Center for Health Protection at the New Mexico Department of Health. The Injury and Violence Prevention Section currently has a staff of 20 divided into three units¿ the epidemiology unit, the program unit, and the violence prevention unit. Currently, the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention has prevention programs for sexual violence, adult falls, suicide, and childhood injury, violence prevention and gun violence prevention. The Office of Injury and Violence Prevention also houses and maintains surveillance systems for the Child Fatality Review Program and the National Violent Death Reporting System.
Why does the job exist?
The violence prevention unit manager will manage the program coordinators, manage the unit budget, directly supervise up to 5 staff members, and work with contractors and community partners to offer violence prevention services to all communities in New Mexico. The unit manager will be responsible for program management, budget management, personnel management, professional development of staff and unit presentations to outside partners and community members, along with other aspects of program and unit management.
How does it get done?
The incumbent in this position will be the primary manager of the Department of Health's violence prevention programs, will directly supervise a Unit of up to 5 subordinates and a budget of approximately 2 million dollars. The person in this position will work closely with the section manager, the injury prevention program unit manager, the evaluation unit manager and the senior epidemiologist to create new programs.

Ideal Candidate
A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
