The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute (NMBHI) is the state's only public operated psychiatric hospital, providing compassionate, patient-centered care for individuals with complex behavioral health needs. Our multidisciplinary team offers acute inpatient treatment, rehabilitation services, and coordinated care aimed at ensuring successful transitions back into the community. The Adult Psychiatric Division is dedicated to delivering evidence-based therapeutic services, comprehensive discharge planning, and supportive case management for our patients.

Patients at NMBHI Adult Psychiatric Division
Ideal Candidate
Licensure in New Mexico as an LMSW, LISW, LMHC, LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, or LPAT and one (1) year of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess a valid Drivers License
This position will work in an office setting with exposure to Visual Video Display Terminal, personal computer, and phone usage. The work is in an adult inpatient psychiatric hospital with patients who may exhibit unpredictable behaviors.

How does it get done?
- Provide individual and group psychotherapy to adults with acute or chronic mental illness.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop person centered treatment plans.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and rehabilitation specialists.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute clinical insight to care planning.
- Engage in crisis intervention and deescalation support as needed.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
