Job Overview
Position Summary
The Process Technician/CNC Programmer provides technical support to manufacturing operations by developing CNC programs, maintaining tooling, and improving processes to ensure safety, quality, and productivity. This role combines hands-on machining, tooling support, and CNC programming to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Programming & Machining
- Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using CAM software for CNC mills and related equipment
- Set up, prove out, and troubleshoot CNC programs to ensure efficient and accurate production
- Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to develop machining strategies
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds to maximize tool life and cycle time efficiency
- Support prototype and production machining processes
Tooling and Process Support
- Test, evaluate, and specify tools and equipment for production and prototype operations
- Perform major die repairs and preventive maintenance (PMs) on tooling and equipment
- Machine, build, refurbish, and assembly tools, gauges, and fixtures to require specifications
- Maintain tooling inventory and support ordering processes
Continuous Improvement and Engineering Support
- Identify and eliminate sources of variation and waste (scrap, downtime, rework)
- Improved uptime, throughput, yield, and labor efficiency
- Develop and update SOPs, work instructions, and training materials
- Create and maintain process documentation (process maps, control plans, etc.)
- Support Engineering in new product development and tooling design
Technical Support and Troubleshooting
- Provide hands-on technical support to production and maintenance teams
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and automation issues
- Assist in robotic programming and automation improvement where applicable
- Communicate technical issues and solutions effectively with team members
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and support Safety / 6S initiatives daily
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards
- Develop and implement engineered safety improvements
Customer and Quality Focus
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues
- Respond to internal and external customer concerns with effective solutions
- Drive defect reduction and cost improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associates Degree in Engineering Technology, Machining, Tool & Die or related field preferred
- 2 to 5 years experience in CNC programming and machining in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with CAM software preferred
- Strong background in tool and die machining operations
- Experience with CNC controls (Okuma preferred), robotics (Motoman preferred), and automation is a plus
- Welding experience (MIG, TIG, etc.)
- Relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Outlook. Also Solidworks, SolidCAM, AutoCAD
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to operate machine shop equipment; mills, lathes, grinders, etc.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T understanding
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and gauges
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using production data (downtime, scrap, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Control Plans and manufacturing documentation
- Strong attention to detail in machining and tool work
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, push and pull regularly
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds consistently during an 8-hour shift
- Ability to communicate effectively
Pay: From $36.13 per hour
