Maintenance Assistant Responsibilities
- Lubricates and cleans electrical and mechanical equipment parts as assigned; Reports mechanical problems to the Director of Maintenance.
- Checks and replaces light bulbs and exit light bulbs.
- Cleans lint, dust, and dirt from dryers, vents, and heat registers in patient rooms and other areas.
- Hoses out garbage cans.
- Keeps ground cleared of debris; Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse in keeping with local code.
- Assists in performing fire drills.
- Washes windows and screens outside the building as assigned.
- Assists with lubricating potty chairs, wheelchairs, shower chairs, wheeled Geri-chairs, and drug carts,
- Works jointly with housekeeping department personnel to service floors, all patient rooms, baths, lounges, nurses' stations, and offices, as assigned.
- Performs any various work assignments as may be required.
- Know and respect residents’ rights.
- Informs and supports residents in exercising their rights.
- Ensure protected health information is kept confidential.
- Reports complaints made by residents to the supervisor.
- Reports all allegations of patient abuse, neglect, and/or misappropriation of resident property.
- Follows established safety policies and procedures.
- Observes safety needs of residents as indicated in care plan; participates in restraint reduction program.
- Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and adequately trained to use.
- Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actual situations.
- Attends and participates in scheduled in-service training, educational classes, and meetings to maintain current certification as mandated by regulatory agencies and company policies.
- Participates in the QAA process.
- High School Diploma.
- Training and/or expertise qualifying the individual to operate and maintain the electrical and mechanical systems within the nursing center.
- Medium. Lifting 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; Includes climbing, balancing, stooping, and crouching.

- Both inside and outside; includes working in conditions involving noise and vibration.
- Works closely with Director of Maintenance.
