What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Safety position at New Look Contracting?
The Director of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing New Look Enterprise’s, LLC and its affiliated entities’ safety programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations. This role leads the enterprise-wide safety culture and partners closely with operations, project management and field teams to reduce risk, prevent incidents, and promote a proactive, safety-first mindset across all construction and office sites.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Leadership and Strategy
- Develops and executes the enterprise’s overall safety vision, policies and strategic plans
- Leads, mentors, and manages the safety team
- Promotes a strong safety culture aligned with company values and industry best practices
- Serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on safety trends, KPIs and risk exposure
- Program Development & Compliance
- Creates, updates, and enforces safety policies, procedures, and Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs)
- Ensures compliance with OSHA, MSHA, EPA, DOT and other regulatory requirements as well as owner and client standards on job sites
- Developments and implements emergency response, incident management, and crisis communication procedures
- Leads safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews across all project sites
- Incident Management & Prevention
- Investigates accidents, near misses, and safety violations; prepares detailed reports and root-cause analyses
- Recommends corrective actions and oversees implementation to prevent recurrence
- Tracks and analyzes incident data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Coordinates workers’ compensation reporting with HR/Risk Management
- Training and Development
- Designs and delivers safety training programs for employees, subcontractors and project teams
- Oversees certifications such as OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, equipment-specific training and specialized hazard courses
- Ensures new-hire orientation includes comprehensive safety onboarding
- Project Support and Field Engagement
- Partners with project teams in preconstruction phases to support hazard assessment and safety planning
- Conducts jobsite visits to observe work practices, coach field personnel, and identify risks
- Reviews subcontractor safety programs, prequalification documents and on-site performance
- Supports safety-related aspects of project scheduling, logistics and high-risk activity planning
- Reporting and Metrics
- Develops and manages safety KPIs including TRIR, EMR, and other leading indicators
- Presents safety performance updates to executive leadership, clients and regulatory bodies
- Maintains documentation and records required for audits, insurance and compliance
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Construction Management, Engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered
- 10 years of progressive safety experience in the construction industry, heavy-civil preferred
- Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards, MSHA and DOT
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and influencing organizational culture
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels – from field workers to executives
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and incident investigation skills
- Familiarity with ISO safety management systems
- Advanced certifications such as CSP and ASP with a focus on heavy highway civil construction

Compensation Package includes:
