New London Local Schools is seeking qualified, student-centered candidates for multiple paraprofessional positions. These positions support students, teachers, and building administrators by assisting with instructional activities, student supervision, behavior supports, organization, and other duties that contribute to a safe and effective learning environment.

The district anticipates hiring multiple paraprofessionals. Initial building and/or program assignments will be determined at the conclusion of the hiring process based on student needs, staffing needs, licensure, qualifications, and the strengths of selected candidates.

Position: Paraprofessional
Reports To: Building Principal and/or Director of Student Services
Anticipated Assignments May Include: General classroom support, cross-categorical support, one-to-one student support, bus aide/attendant support, and/or ESL/ELL support.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates should possess or be eligible to obtain an Ohio Educational Aide Permit as defined by Ohio Revised Code Section 3319.088. Candidates must also meet all mandated health requirements and provide documentation of a clear criminal record.

Preferred qualifications include experience working with children, especially students with disabilities, in a school setting. Candidates should also meet applicable paraprofessional requirements, including an associate degree or equivalent in early childhood education or a related field, or successful completion of the required state paraprofessional assessment.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

Maintain confidentiality and respect for student and family information;
Interact with students, families, and staff in a respectful, fair, and professional manner;
Work with students of different ages and with varying academic, social-emotional, mental, and physical needs;
Support student learning, organization, study skills, and positive behavior;
Assist with student supervision in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, buses, field trips, assemblies, emergency drills, and other school settings;
Remain flexible, dependable, and responsive to student and building needs;
Participate in professional development as assigned;
Use technology and virtual platforms to support students when needed.

General Responsibilities:

Paraprofessionals work under the direction of teachers, principals, and/or the Director of Student Services. Responsibilities may include assisting with instructional activities in small-group or one-to-one settings, supporting students with assigned tasks, reading to students, assisting with remediation activities, helping students move safely throughout the classroom and building, and supporting the implementation of student IEPs as appropriate.

Additional responsibilities may include assisting with first aid, supporting behavior management plans and classroom expectations, collecting student data, maintaining charts or anecdotal records, preparing and organizing instructional materials, participating in arrival and dismissal procedures, promoting positive social relationships among students, explaining school rules, and reporting any known or suspected abuse as required by law.

Depending on assignment, paraprofessionals may also assist with personal care routines, student transfers, bus loading and unloading, transportation safety procedures, communication with staff and families, ESL/ELL translation or classroom support, and other duties within the general scope of the position.

Physical and Other Requirements:

Candidates must be able to move throughout the building, interact with students and staff, hear and speak effectively in typical school settings, and use hands, arms, legs, and feet as needed to perform assigned duties. The position may require assisting with student transfers or equipment, handling bodily fluids using appropriate safety precautions, responding to emergency situations, and lifting items weighing up to 30 pounds.
