Position Description
New London Local Schools is seeking a qualified and dedicated Intervention Specialist for an initial placement within the district's Transition Program. This position supports secondary students with disabilities as they prepare for postsecondary education, employment, independent living, and community participation.
The Intervention Specialist will provide transition-focused instruction and collaborate with families, staff, and community partners to support successful post-school outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and implement individualized, transition-focused intervention plans aligned with student IEPs and postsecondary goals.
- Provide direct instruction in functional academics, employability skills, self-advocacy, and independent living skills.
- Conduct age-appropriate transition assessments and use data to inform instruction and planning.
- Collaborate with general education staff, job coaches, community agencies, and families to support student transitions.
- Coordinate and monitor community-based instruction, vocational training, and work-based learning experiences.
- Track and document student progress toward graduation and transition goals.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA transition planning requirements and timelines.
- Participate in professional development related to secondary transition services and workforce readiness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree considered).
- Valid Ohio teaching license with a 712 Transition to Work endorsement.
- Experience working with secondary students with disabilities preferred.
- Knowledge of transition planning, vocational education, and community-based instruction.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and external partners.
- Ability to analyze data and align instruction to postsecondary outcomes.
- Commitment to student independence, growth, and long-term success.
