New London Local Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-centered professional to serve as an Elementary Counselor. This position is designed to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of elementary students through a comprehensive, proactive, and collaborative approach.
The district welcomes candidates who hold either a valid School Counselor license or a licensed Social Worker credential, recognizing the value that both backgrounds bring to supporting the whole child.
Qualifications
- Valid Ohio School Counselor License (required)
OR
Valid Ohio Licensed Social Worker (LSW or LISW) credential (required) - Demonstrated ability to support students' social-emotional and behavioral needs
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
- Knowledge of MTSS frameworks, PBIS, and trauma-informed practices preferred
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and community partners
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to students through individual and small group counseling
- Deliver classroom guidance lessons aligned to social-emotional learning standards
- Support the implementation of PBIS and other school-wide behavioral frameworks
- Collaborate with teachers to address student needs within the classroom setting
- Participate in MTSS processes, including data review and intervention planning
- Assist in identifying and responding to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges
- Coordinate with families and external agencies to support student success
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate
- Maintain appropriate documentation and adhere to confidentiality requirements
- Supporting school-based initiatives that address barriers to student learning and well-being. (i.e. NLLS Food Pantry, Shop with an Adult, Stuff the Bus, ect.)
