Part-Time Mental Health Receptionist
About Us
New Life Counseling is a Christian, faith-based, and fully licensed counseling practice
that has been serving the Des Moines and Ankeny areas for over 20 years. With 21
providers across three locations, we specialize in medication management, nutrition
services, and mental health therapy for children, individuals, couples, and families.

Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Part-Time Mental Health
Receptionist to go between our West Des Moines and Ankeny locations, as needed.
This position is unique and will likely change over time. To start, we are looking for
someone to consistently serve on Fridays at our West Des Moines location and fill-in at
both the Ankeny and West Des Moines locations as needed. This position will work
closely with our current receptionists in both locations. When our West Des Moines
receptionist goes on leave, the person in this position will cover the West Des Moines
location in her absence. As the first point of contact for our clients, you will play a vital
role in creating a welcoming and professional environment while managing daily
administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
Greet and check in clients with warmth and professionalism
Answer and direct phone calls, schedule appointments, and manage provider
calendars
Maintain client confidentiality and uphold HIPAA regulations
Process payments and verify insurance information
Ensure completion of client paperwork
Handle sensitive situations with discretion and empathy
Assist with administrative duties such as data entry, filing, and correspondence
Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient office operations
Qualifications & Soft Skills
Strong integrity, discretion, and confidentiality
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication abilities
Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients and staff
Outstanding customer service and de-escalation skills
Calm and composed personality, especially in high-stress situations
Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks
Technical Skills
Proficiency in technology – comfortable using computers, office equipment,
and troubleshooting minor technical issues
Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems – familiarity with
managing client records digitally (or willingness to learn)
Word processing and document management – strong skills in Microsoft
Word and Google Docs
Experience with Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, etc.) –
ability to manage calendars, emails, chats, and documents
Data entry accuracy – ability to input client information with attention to detail
Basic knowledge of mental health and insurance terminology – helpful but
not required
HIPAA certification is a plus (can be provided if needed)

This is a part-time, with the potential for some full-time weeks, fill-in hourly position with some flexibility in work hours. Pay is based on experience.
