Recovery Ministry Aftercare Coordinator Job Description

Position: Recovery Ministry Aftercare Coordinator
Part-time/Full-Time: Full-time
Department: Genesis
Reports to: Recovery Ministry Program Manager
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Starting Hourly Wage: $21/hr.


Summary

The Recovery Ministry Aftercare Coordinator is a key part of a team that supports individuals who have completed the Genesis Recovery Program and are transitioning into independent living. The Recovery Ministry Aftercare Coordinator provides ongoing accountability, aftercare programming, and relational support to help graduates maintain recovery, sustain housing, and continue progressing in their personal and spiritual development. Due to program demographics, only male candidates will be considered for this role.

Essential Functions

Essential Function 1: Graduate Support and Accountability

  • Facilitate weekly one-hour accountability meetings and ensure compliance with Phase 5 expectations. 

  • Maintain consistent contact with graduates living independently, including follow-up and re-engagement. 

  • Support housing stability through budgeting, rent planning, and landlord navigation. 

  • Identify early warning signs of relapse, disengagement, or instability and respond proactively. 

  • Administer weekly urinalysis (UA) drug screenings for residents and optional testing for independent graduates. 

Essential Function 2: Program Facilitation and Community Engagement

  • Lead weekly Change Group/Aftercare meetings open to all graduates. 

  • Plan and organize alumni gatherings, celebrations, and engagement events. 

  • Create mentorship opportunities between graduates and current participants. 

  • Encourage involvement in recovery groups, churches, and community support networks. 

Essential Function 3: Spiritual Care and Mentorship

  • Provide spiritual support through prayer, Bible study, and faith-based conversations. 

  • Encourage and assist graduates in connecting with local churches and faith communities. 

Essential Function 4: Operations, Collaboration, and Administration

  • Work in a spirit of cooperation with staff, guests, graduates, and volunteers.  

  • Monitor safety, condition, and culture of aftercare apartments.  

  • Collaborate with Recovery Ministry Advocates, including transportation and participant support.  

  • Document all meetings, UA results, and interactions in Mission Tracker within 24 hours.  

  • Maintain communication with staff and leadership regarding progress and concerns.  

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, conferences, and seminars. 

  • Assist with other mission-related duties as needed. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Personal:

  • Must be engaged in a local church and exhibit a personal, evident, and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Willingness to serve others.
  • Desire to see the lost be transformed through the love of Christ

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in a recovery-related field, case management, or ministry-based program.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with the organization's insurance carrier requirements, and provide proof of insurance, as required for the performance of job duties.
  • If in recovery, a minimum of one year of sustained recovery with active participation in a 12-step program is required; two or more years is preferred.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. 

  • Ability to build relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries and accountability. 

  • Strong judgment, sensitivity, and compassion for individuals in recovery. 

  • Ability to identify and respond to relapse risks and behavioral concerns. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 

  • Basic working knowledge of computers and software applications (such as Microsoft Office and case management systems). 

  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic environment. 


Work Environment:

  • Work is performed throughout a shelter and recovery program campus, including offices, classrooms, work-training sites, and common guest areas. 

  • Regular movement between departments and job training locations across the facility. 

  • Combination of standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods during supervision, meetings, and documentation. 

  • Periodic bending, reaching, and light lifting related to materials, paperwork, or program supplies. 

  • Use of standard office and program equipment, including desks, chairs, computers, phones, and printers. 

  • Operation of motor vehicles, including transporting guests and driving a 15-passenger van as needed. 

  • Work hours include scheduled program supervision times and may require flexibility to support program activities.
