BASIC FUNCTION
The New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc. provides high-impact tutoring in math and literacy to K–8 students, helping to close learning gaps. NJTC is seeking to hire pre-apprentices to become qualified tutors.
NJTC’s tutors will learn the basic functions of high-impact tutoring and support scholars in small groups of 1–4, building foundational skills and confidence. Pre-apprenticeship tutors shall become eligible to work for NJTC as apprentices during the ‘2026-27’ school year. Candidates’ successful completion of the pre-apprenticeship program prioritizes placement for the school year, which has limited seats.
As an NJTC Tutor Apprentice, you’ll play a vital role in supporting scholars through high-impact tutoring while simultaneously advancing your education and career goals. This unique program allows you to earn a higher wage as you complete competency milestones over the course of 4000 hours. It will also help you navigate careers in education and the certification process while gaining instructional experience that strengthens your professional skills.
**School year employment is $30/hour with a max weekly commitment of 29 hours/week. Tutoring is in person and generally operates M-F; however, some locations are only 3 days, and others are 4 days.

Schedule: Mon-Thurs (9 am-12 pm) in person at your placement location
Up to 15 hrs a week
August
Schedule: 3rd - 28th
M - F asynchronous and synchronous virtual work approx 5-10 hours a week.
September
Schedule: 1st - 30th
M - F asynchronous and synchronous virtual work approx 5-10 hours a week.
Compensation: $250 Paid bi-weekly via Zelle payment- upon completion of weekly assignments
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receive an On-the-Job Training (OJT) checklist, which outlines job competencies that, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
Engage K–8 scholars in math and literacy, using an asset-based approach to build skills and confidence, and sit with scholars for 3-4 hours per day (July).
Complete daily records, including attendance (digitally) on scholar progress and site needs using the tools provided;
Prepare lessons digitally, use the data to drive instruction, and maintain respect for the confidentiality of all program data.
Communicate regularly with your site leaders to provide optimum learning experiences for scholars.
Participate in coaching, implement feedback, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth
Use an asset-based approach in working with scholars, “glass half full”;
Demonstrate professionalism, including reliability, punctuality, responsiveness to email communication, and promptly complete all required training.
Maintain integrity, resilience, trustworthiness, and patience with scholars and teammates;
Must adhere to local health department and school district requirements for the site at which you are working, including any mask rules that must be followed, if applicable.
Complete all required assignments
June - asynchronous and synchronous training (5-10 hrs/wk) with 1 in person commitment
July - in-person tutor training (15 hrs/wk M-Th 9-12 pm)
Aug - asynchronous and synchronous training (5-10 hrs/wk)
September- asynchronous and synchronous training (5-10 hrs/wk)
EMPLOYER QUALIFICATIONS
Espouse the belief that all scholars deserve the highest-quality education;
Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, including strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Genuine desire to work with young children to impact their education through academic intervention;
New Jersey or Pennsylvania Fingerprint Certificate and Background Clearance- The final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and employment authorization verification.
Complete a background check and verification of eligibility to work in the United States (i9)
Reliable transportation to travel to and between sites;
Bilingual (optional, but a plus).
MUST have a Gmail email address or be willing to create a Gmail account; and experience with Google Suite applications: Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms;
Employees are encouraged to use their private computer device(s) to perform work-related assignments. If necessary, employees can ask for a company loaner.
