What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAD Drafter/Designer position at New Jersey Steel Baron?
CAD Drafter
NJ Steel Baron is a specialized material and machining service provider focused on the cutlery and knife making industry in the US and abroad. From blacksmiths, to bladesmiths to CNC shops, hobbyist to full production shops we supply them all.
We provide a variety of alloys from single bar to mill runs depending on customer needs. Company capabilities include waterjet and surface grinding services, small batch custom cutlery production, laminate steel production, stabilized wood products, as well as other contract work. We hope to expand our CNC router and laser engraving services soon as well.
We are looking for a knowledgeable and driven candidate to take on a position in our Extra Services department as a CAD Drafter/Designer.
An ideal candidate would have CAD drafting experience and certification or degree, relevant work experience in any type of crafting, trade or production shop, and some service industry experience (i.e. bartender, chef, etc.). Blacksmithing or machining experience is also a huge plus.
Candidate must be personable, timely, and detail oriented. We run a high volume of small-batch waterjet jobs and spend a lot of time educating our customers on how to ramp up their own production capabilities. We pride ourselves on our ability to help hobby and part time makers work their way into full time makers and production shops. Education in cutlery production and specialty alloys is part of the training here as well. Candidates will get hands-on crafting time to make sure they can meet our customers wherever they are at when it comes to their own skill set and abilities.
Candidate must have a valid driver’s license or state ID and be able to make it to work on time. We are located right next to the Hawthorne train station, so that is always an option. We allow our staff to bring their dogs to work, so any candidate should take into consideration there are up to half a dozen dogs in the office throughout the day.
