New Jersey Respiratory, Inc. is seeking a per diem Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our ventilator care team, working alongside our Respiratory Therapists (RTs) to provide high-quality care for ventilator-dependent patients in skilled nursing facilities. This role will serve as a critical second team member, supporting with: patient care, monitoring, and documentation while ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our patients.
Duties:
- Assist RTs with daily care and monitoring of ventilator-dependent and tracheostomy patients.
- Support RT by providing suctioning and general care to tracheostomy patients.
- Respond promptly to patient needs and perform routine nursing tasks including vital sign monitoring, medication administration, and patient hygiene.
- Accurately document patient observations and care provided.
- Assist with assembly and change out of disposable supplies as scheduled.
- Maintain and monitor DME preventive maintenance and ventilator hour logs.
- Clean, prepare, and circulate DME per facility guidelines.
- Collect and process discontinued DME for reuse.
- Maintain and stock supply rooms, ensuring proper par levels for disposables and DME.
- Monitor DME inventory and notify the director when adjustments are needed.
- Assist with resident room changes as needed.
Requirements:
- Current, valid LPN License in the state of employment.
- Previous experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care environment preferred.
- Experience with ventilator and tracheostomy patients is a plus.
- Strong communication with team members, facility staff, and patients.
- Commitment to delivering compassionate, quality care to patients.
Physical and Emotional Demands: Must maintain good physical and emotional health to perform duties effectively. Requires the ability to understand and communicate clearly with staff, residents, and families. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and tolerate constant walking, standing, and sitting throughout the shift.
Exposure Risks: May be exposed to blood and body fluids during normal work routines. Must follow OSHA standards and use universal precautions at all times.
Working Conditions: Work hours are based on the needs of the residents and the facility. Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
