The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking applications for candidates for the position of Principal Engineer Structural Evaluation, within the Division of Capital Program Management, Bridge Engineering and Infrastructure Management, Bureau of Structural Evaluation and Bridge Management.

Bridge Engineering and Infrastructure Management
The division includes the Bureau of Structural Evaluation and Bridge Management, Bureau of Structural Engineering Services, and Bureau of Structural Design and Geotechnical Engineering.
Responsibilities of the unit include but are not limited to:
• Inspection of all bridges and other structures.
• Provides recommendations for rehabilitation or replacement.
• Review all designs for bridge projects.
• Develop design policies and in - house structural designs.
• Approve geotechnical engineering designs.
• Maintain the Rockfall Hazard Management System.
• Field work as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Degree: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
NOTE: A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology (BSET) in a field related to civil engineering from an accredited college having a curriculum approved by the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology (ABET) meets the above education requirement.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional experience in structural evaluation and /or structural analysis work.
Note: Possession of a valid Professional Engineer's License issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
Note: All appointees to positions in the Structural Evaluation Unit must meet the Bridge inspection Team Leader qualifications specified in the current version of 23 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations), Part 650, Subpart C, which is the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). These qualifications specify educational, bridge inspection experience and bridge inspection training requirements, some of which can be replaced by a PE license issued only by the State of New Jersey or a National Certification in Engineering Technologies (NCIET) Level III or IV Bridge Safety Inspector Certification.
APPOINTEES TO THIS POSITION WILL BE SUBJECT TO CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION TESTING AND MUST PLACE HIGH ENOUGH FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT ON THE SUBSEQUENT
