SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $20.00.

This position is limited to a maximum of 944 hours in a fiscal year. Interns would be required to work up a minimum of 10 hours up to 20 hours per week.

The Administrative Office of the Courts, Office of Probation Services is seeking a dynamic and engaged undergraduate or graduate student with a demonstrated interest in problem-solving courts, public service, criminal justice, public administration, social work, or a related field to assist the Statewide Recovery Court & Treatment Assessment Services for the Courts (TASC) Program.

Recovery Court is a specialized term of probation and alternative to incarceration in which criminally involved substance users have the opportunity to change their lives with the support of the courts. Central Office Recovery Court staff provides leadership, guidance and technical assistance to the recovery court teams, through training & development, data analytics, fiscal management, and committee membership. This internship offers meaningful exposure to statewide specialty court operations and policy development. In addition, this position provides hands-on experience in specialty court administration, interagency collaboration, and evidence-based program implementation.

Example of Duties

The selected intern will assist the Chief of Recovery Court & TASC by:

  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing statewide statistical data
  • Assisting in planning and organizing training events
  • Assisting Central Office and Vicinage staff as directed
  • Conducting research on training topics
  • Performing special projects as directed


Qualifications

Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university pursuing a degree or certificate in the Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field.

Unofficial College or University transcript must be included in your application in order to be considered.

Supplemental Information

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. The selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
