Field Service Lead — Building Automation & Controls
Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Nashville, TN | Direct Hire | On-Site with travel
We are hiring a System Team Leader (STL) to lead and develop a team of system technicians and electrical installers across primarily the Knoxville and Chattanooga markets. This is a brand new position created to support significant growth in East Tennessee commercial building automation operations.
As the STL, you are the technical and operational backbone of the field team. You will own resource scheduling, daily field support, mentorship, and customer-facing communication, all while staying hands-on with the controls and mechanical systems your team installs and commissions. This role is roughly 40–60% field-based.
What You'll Own
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, schedule, and develop a team of approximately 7 field staff (system techs and electrical installers) across Knoxville and Chattanooga
- Run weekly scheduling calls to plan technician deployment across 60–70 active projects for the following 1–2 weeks
- Serve as the first point of contact for daily technical questions, troubleshooting, and problem escalations from your team
- Develop individual team members through mentorship, on-the-job coaching, and performance management
- Handle standard HR responsibilities: time card approvals, expense reports, time-off requests
Project & Technical Support
- Support 3 project owners with resource planning, submittal review, drawing interpretation, and scope-of-work input
- Assist with estimates for labor hours, commissioning scope, and engineering needs on new and active projects
- Step in as the technical expert on complex controls and mechanical system issues, you should be comfortable discussing wiring, sensors, relays, and BAS programming
- Review bid accuracy and provide input on project feasibility
Customer & Stakeholder Communication
- Communicate confidently with internal teams and external customers at a technical level
- Represent the branch professionally on site visits, customer calls, and progress meetings
Must-Haves:
- 5 years of experience in commercial HVAC or building services, including automation control systems.
- 1 years mentoring or in a leadership role, must be comfortable owning team productivity and professional development.
- Strong track record in balancing financial goals with customer satisfaction and safety compliance.
- Proven ability to analyze operations, implement process improvements, and lead teams in a service-oriented environment.
Compensation & Perks
- Annual performance bonus: approximately 10–12% of base salary
