CAD Designer

Develop technical drawings and 3D models in a custom curtainwall company. The CAD Designer (CD) is responsible for all aspects of the design process.  The CD will complete and manipulate base curtainwall system designs using CAD to complete project submittal documents and develop fabrication drawings and models from these submittal documents. The CD provides work direction, guidance, and training to other CAD staff. The CD reviews the accuracy and quality of work performed by others. The CD may also serve as a point of contact with internal and external customers and may assist in the development of CAD standards and procedures.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Work with Technical Project Manager and Engineers to create submittal details, plans, and elevations.
• Create layout and tag drawings for installation.
• Create fabrication drawings and models.
• Generate Bill of Materials (BOMs) and material estimates.
• Read and interpret project Architectural and Structural drawings.
• Read and interpret project specifications.
• Provide direction, guidance, and training to CAD staff.
• Review accuracy and quality of work performed by other technical staff.
• Provide support to factory and field personnel as needed.
• Follow best practice drafting and modeling standards & assist in the development and refinement of standards.
• Use education and company provided training to further develop required skills.
• May supervise, mentor, and train other resources.
• Additional items as needed by design department.

Skills and Abilities:

• Under general direction, may act in leadership role for project tasks.
• Strong general computer skills including working knowledge of email, MS Office, and similar software
• Strong spatial aptitude.
• Ability to travel as required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to travel as required.
• Ability to sit, work, collaborate on a computer as needed for project work.
• Ability to stand for periods of time as needed for project work.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• Associates degree in AEC industry or related field required, bachelors preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD required.
• Working knowledge of 3D modeling software (Inventor/SolidWorks) required.
• 4-8 years Curtainwall or related Industry experience required.
