The Register Associate is responsible for providing excellent customer service at the point of sale by accurately and efficiently processing customer purchases, returns, and exchanges. This role contributes to the overall customer experience by maintaining professionalism, friendliness, and accuracy while handling cash, credit, and other forms of payment.
Additional tasks may be assigned at times by your supervisor. Consideration will be given to your current workload and duties.
Key Result Areas:
Greet guests promptly and courteously:
- Acknowledge every guest promptly with a smile and friendly tone.
- Offer a standard greeting such as “Hello, welcome to New Horizons Thrift Store” or “Good [morning/afternoon], how are you today?”
- Make eye contact to create a welcoming and approachable atmosphere.
- Maintain an upbeat, professional demeanor regardless of how busy the store is.
Operate cash registers, scanners, credit card terminals, and other point-of-sale (POS) equipment:
- Accurately handle cash, checks, credit, and debit transactions; count money, make change, and balance drawers.
- Process returns, exchanges, and refunds according to company policies.
- Bag, wrap, or package merchandise to ensure safe handling.
- Maintain a clean and organized checkout area.
- Provide information on promotions, sales, and store policies.
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth store operations.
- Assist with stocking shelves and merchandising as directed.
- Answer customer questions regarding store layout, products, or promotions.
- Provide support to other departments as needed.
Workplace Environment
- Physical Labor Environment – Involves working indoor. Repetitive motions of the hands and arms to handle, move, carry, and control objects and items for extended periods of time are required.
- Body positioning - Includes standing and walking for the duration of a shift. Occasional bending, stooping, climbing and reaching is required.
- Physical Demands – Lifting and carrying items up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
- Work Shifts – Involves day shift hours with occasional weekend, holiday, or evening shifts.

Compensation:
This position can be full-time or part-time employment.
Full-time
This is a full-time position. This position is not exempt, which means that overtime pay will be paid for time worked over 40 hours per week.
Paid Medical Leave, MEC, and Life Insurance is included, optional health benefits include Vision, and HDHP. Paid vacation begins to accrue after 30 days.
Compensation will be paid twice a month, on the 7th and 21st of each month.
Part-time
This is a part-time position consisting of 30 hours or less per week. This position is not exempt, which means that overtime pay will be paid for time worked over 40 hours per week.
Paid Medical Leave is included. No paid time off is available for part-time employees.
Compensation will be paid twice a month, on the 7th and 21st of each month.
No compensation will be provided for voluntary time and/or services provided and volunteered by the employee that fall outside the typical employee responsibilities for this job.
