PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Provide transportation for adults with physical disabilities or the elderly. Cross training in dispatching/scheduling to support the needs of the department.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Safely transport individuals in specially equipped vehicles
- Follow pre-determined transportation schedules.
- Perform daily pre and post vehicle safety check.
- Assist tenants in boarding and leaving vehicles.
- Ensure the safety of passengers by securing wheelchairs in vehicles at all times.
- Operate vehicles in a responsible and safe manner by using SAFE DRIVING TECHNIQUES. Safety belts are to be worn by both drivers and passengers at all times.
- Use vehicle radios to report progress regularly and to report problems at once.
- Cross train in dispatching, utilizing computer software to analyze and assign resources appropriately and cost effectively
- Generate daily/weekly medical and recreational rides including data input into the dispatching software and processing payments accordingly
- Collaborate ongoing with drivers, customers, external facilities/providers to provide excellent customer service
- Report all vehicle maintenance problems or accidents to Transportation Coordinator immediately and in writing.
- Routinely clean Village vehicles inside and out.
- Keep a daily transportation log.
- Maintain a clean driving record in accordance with NHV Safety Check for Van Drivers Policy and Procedure.
- Use NHV vehicles to run village errands and/or deliveries as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works in the transportation office area as well as vans and buses.
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is involved with tenant and medical transportation riders.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold a current CT Public Service License in good standing.
- Must have one of the following endorsements F, S, V or A.
